Verona, N.Y. -
The Adelphi men's golf team garnered their third top ten finish in five fall starts with a ninth-place showing in the 18-team Hamilton College Shenendoah Fall Invitational held on the Shenendoah and Kahluyat golf courses in Verona, NY, on October 7-8. The Panthers were paced by suddenly red-hot junior Mauricio Saavedra, who carded rounds of 77-79 (156). Junior Jantzen Vargas was the next Panther finisher with rounds of 81-78 (159).
The tournament was won by Skidmore College (306-295 - 601), which edged
first-day leader New York University (305-300 - 605) for the team title. NYU senior John Pharr shot a two-day total of 138 (71-67) to collect medalist honors.
Adelphi was able to maintain its first-day ninth place position as all four
Panthers shot in the 70s on day two and senior Peter Alt had his best showing of the season (81-78 - 159). Saavedra had a roller coaster ride en route to his second-day score of 79.
The Panthers were able to gain three critical head-to-head wins in a field
featuring six Division II schools, all regional competitors.
Adelphi returns to action in the one-day Dominican College Fall Invitational Golf Tournament on October 13 at Spook Rock GC in Suffern, NY.
