Shoreham, N.Y. - The Adelphi University golf team finished in third place on Monday, October 8, in the 10-team Adelphi University Fall Invitational at Tallgrass Country Club in Shoreham, NY. The Panthers (296-310 - 606) were led by junior Brant Kummerfeld (75-72 - 147), who also finished in third place among a field of 60 individuals, and senior Jantzen Vargas (72-79 - 151), who finished in a tie for seventh place.

St. Thomas Aquinas (300-299 - 599) won the team competition, with Post (297-304 - 601) a close second. UMass-Lowell (294-317 - 611) and Assumption (304-307 - 611) tied for fourth, followed by Dominican (314-317 - 631) in fifth.

Steve Wolak (73-72 - 145) of Assumption shot a one-over par aggregate to head the field of individuals, followed by Calum Malcolm of Post (71-75 - 146) and Kummerfeld.

In addition to strong rounds from Kummerfeld and Vargas Adelphi also received a good showing from freshman Matt Demeo (75-79 - 154), who tied for 14th place. Junior Oliver Hudesman (74-83 - 157) finished in a tie for 27th place and senior Mauricio Saavedra (78-80 - 158) finished in 29th place.

Kummerfeld has now put together back-to-back top-five showings and four consecutive top-10 finishes while Vargas extended his string of top-15 finishes to 12 consecutive tournaments, dating to March, 2007

Adelphi returns to action on Sunday, October 14, at the Dominican College Charger Challenge at Spook Rock Golf Course in Suffern, NY.
