Adelphi Swimmers Qualify For NCAA and ECAC Championships

Final Stats

New Brunswick, N.J. - The Adelphi swim team traveled to Rutgers University to compete in the Metropolitan Collegiate Championship meet (METS) that took place February 20-22. The Panthers had a successful weekend, two swimmers qualified for the ECAC Championships, one for the NCAA Division II Championships and another swimmer was honored with an award.

Freshman Jerri Lester (El Paso, TX) had an outstanding weekend at the METS. Lester claimed first place in the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 2:09.37. Not only was that time good enough for first but it also provisionally qualified Lester for the NCAA Division II championships. Lester also provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division II meet in the 200 yard backstroke as well.

Lester will also be competing in the ECAC championship meet after having automatically qualified in the 50 yard freestyle, 100 and 200 yard backstroke. She also provisionally qualified for the ECAC meet in the 100 freestyle.

On the men's side freshman Matthew Jordan (Valley Stream, N.Y.) had a strong showing. Jordan automatically qualified for the ECAC championship meet in the 50 yard freestyle and provisionally qualified in the 100 yard freestyle.

Senior captain Mark Smith was honored with the Dick Krempecki Award for Most Outstanding Men's Senior, which goes to one senior male swimmer in the entire MET conference.

The ECAC championships will be held February 26-29th at the University of Pittsburgh. The NCAA Division II championships will be held March 10-13th at the Erie Community College Flickinger Center in Buffalo, New York.
