March 21, 2007 Garden City, N.Y. - Adelphi swimmer Matt Jordan (Valley Stream, N.Y.) will be honored as the Male College Athlete of the Year by the Nassau County Sports Commission. Jordan will be honored at the 13th Annual Awards Dinner, which will take place at 7:00 pm on Monday, April 30, 2007 at the Chateau Briand in Carle Place, New York. A four-time All-Metropolitan Conference selection, he has qualified for the Eastern College Athletic Conference championships four times, holds an individual school record, and has a share of five relay records. In 2006 Jordan placed seventh overall at the ECAC Championships in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 21.48 and is a two-time NCAA B cut qualifier. The dinner honors athletes for excellence in sports, academics, and community service, and coaches for exceptional commitment to athletes, sportsmanship, and community. Other honorees at the 13th annual Awards Dinner will include Nassau County Hall of Fame inductees, Mike Bossy (New York Islanders), Rocky Graziano (Professional Boxer), Pat LaFontaine (New York Islanders) and Richard Moran (College Lacrosse Coach). Boston Globe columist Bob Ryan will be honored along with New York Jets tackle D'Brickashaw Ferguson, Sue Bird of the Seattle Storm and Boston College men's basketball coach Al Skinner. Adelphi has been awarded three of the last five Female College Athlete of The Year awards and four of the last six Male College Athlete of The Year awards.
