Center Valley, PA - The Adelphi University track and field team traveled to DeSales University in Center Valley, Pennsylvania to compete in the Collegiate Track Conference (CTC) outdoor championships. The women scored 46 points and placed sixth overall, an improvement of one place from a year ago, while the men improved three spots from 2006, placing seventh overall with 66 points. The women combined to produce 15 top-ten finishes, including seven top-five showings, led by Danielle Connor, who placed third in both the 5000 and 10000-meter runs. Morgan Russell also turned in a third-place performance in the 100 hurdles, clocking 15.66 in the final and a personal best of 15.63 in the prelims. Melissa Coelho and Margaret Penner both picked up fourth place points, Coelho placed fourth in the 5000-meter run, while Penner stopped the clock at 2:30.67 to place fourth in the 800-meter run. Penner teamed with Heather Troutman, Meghan Farrell and Kristin Eberhardt to claim fourth in the 4x800 meter relay (10:26.45), while Russell, Carissa Demelfi, Liz DiRico and Megan Murphy clocked a 4:23.13 4x400 relay to place fifth. The men picked up 18 top-10 placings, eight top-fives and two conference titles. Both conference titles came courtesy of Jaime Julia-Perez, who took home titles in the 1500-meter run and the 5000-meter run. Julia-Perez produced a lifetime best of 4:00.77 to capture the 1500-meter title and cruised to a win in the 5000-meter run in a time of 15:46.39. Aaron Warner also turned in a strong day, placing fourth in the 800 meter run in a personal best of 1:57.16 and picking up fifth in the 400 meter run with a time of 50.46. Carlos Techera collected fourth place points for Adelphi in the 3000-meter steeplechase, while Mark Pollard took home fifth in the 200-meter dash (22.57). Pollard and Warner combined with Sean Murphy and Brian Chaback to place fifth in the 4x400 meter dash, stopping the clock in a season best of 3:23.10. The Panthers will return to action on Thursday, April 26 when they compete in the PENN Relays in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. |
