Bronx, N.Y. - The Adelphi University cross-country team travled to Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, New York to compete in the NCAA Division II Northeast Regional. The men placed sixth overall with 185 points, just a point out of fifth, while the women placed fourth with 131 points. Junior Ify Anene placed fourth overall in the women's race, earning her first ever trip to the NCAA Division II National Championship. The men were led by senior Matt Dispensa, who placed 20th overall with a time of 33:47.9 and was followed by freshman Ryan Pezzulo. Pezzulo posted a top-30 finish, crossing the line in 34:14.7 to capture 27th place overall. Junior Carlos Techera, senior Mike Dorman and freshman Adam Clark rounded out Adelphi's top-five. Techera placed 41st in 34:54.3, while Dorman crossed the line in 45th (35:05.7). Clark was Adelphi's fifth finisher across the line, placing 52nd in a time of 35:27.3. The women placed five women in the top-41, led by Anene who finished fourth overall in a time of 23:06.8 and earned her first all-region honor. Graduate Student Jen Malenovsky was the second Panther across the line, missing all-region accolades by one spot with her 16th place finish (24:11). Senior Danielle Connor placed 34th overall in a time of 24:56.7, while sophomore Heather Troutman was just a few steps behind in 36th (25:01.9). Junior Danielle Matteo rounded out Adelphi's top-five, crossing the line in 41st with a time of 25:22.9. Adelphi will return to action on Saturday November 17 when Anene competes in the NCAA National Championship meet in Joplin Missouri. Anene is the first Panther to earn a trip to the National meet since 2002. The Panthers will also compete in the IC4A/ECAC Championship meet on Saturday, November 17 at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, New York. |
