June 13, 2006 Garden City, N.Y. - The IWLCA has announced the three recipients of the 2006 IWLCA Coach of the Year Awards. Gettysburg's Carol Cantele, Adelphi's Jill Lessne-Solomon, and Notre Dame's Tracy Coyne have been tabbed by their peers as the National Coach of the Year, while eleven of their colleagues earned Regional Coach of the Year honors. In 2001, at just 23 years of age, Head Coach Jill Lessne-Solomon began building the Adelphi University Women's Lacrosse program. Over the past six years, Coach Lessne-Solomon has since guided the Adelphi University women's lacrosse team to three straight NCAA appearances with the school's most recent title coming in 2006. The Panthers were crowned 2006 National Champions with a convincing 16-8 victory over West Chester University on May 15. The team completed the season with a school-recording setting 16-1 finish. Adelphi finished second in the NYCAC with a 4-1 record with a total of ten players named to the all-conference team including freshman Rachel Ray who was recognized as NYCAC Rookie of the Year. Coach Lessne-Solomon's Panthers also earned six All-American honors,with senior Melissa Demasi and junior Allyson Murphy receiving Player of the year honors. Adelphi captured its first-ever title in 2004. For her coaching achievements, the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Association, as well as Inside Lacrosse named Lessne-Solomon the Division II Coach of the Year in 2004.
