West Chester, PA - The Adelphi University women's soccer took on Slippery Rock University on Friday, November 9 in the first round of the 2007 NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Championships held at South Campus Field in West Chester, Pennsylvania. The Panthers gave up two early goals and never recovered falling, 2-0.

Adelphi produced two strong scoring chances in the first three minutes of action, pulling the Slippery Rock goalkepper off her line both times. However the Rocks answered on their first corner kick, forcing Christine Conway to make a diving save.

At the 33:37 mark of the first half Meghan McGrath struck the ball toward the Panther net from 30 yards out, forcing Conway to punch the ball over the bar, saving a goal. Just three minutes Conway was forced to dive to her right to make another save and keep the game knotted at zero.

Then at the 26:16 mark a quick Slippery Rock counter attack sprung Meghan McGrath free giving her a one-on-one with Conway. McGrath slotted the ball into the lower right corner to give the Rocks a 1-0 edge.

Just over ten minutes later the Rocks scored again, this time a Slippery Rock midfielder sent the ball across the mouth of the goal, where is slipped past a scrum in front of the net. McGrath was waiting on the other end and gave the Rocks a 2-0 cushion.

Adelphi closed out the first half with a flurry, getting three solid chances on goal before the horn sounded ending the half with Slippery Rock ahead 2-0.

The Panthers opened the second half on fire, getting their first solid chance at the 37:38 mark when Adelphi drew a direct kick. Amanda Popoli struck the ball from just outside the Slippery Rock penalty box but came up empty. From there it was all Adelphi until the 25 minute mark when McGrath sent a ball onto the Adelphi goal from 25 yards out that was kept out of the back of the net by another outstanding Conway save.

The Panthers kept the pressure on in the remaining time but could not break through, falling 2-0 and ending their season with a mark of 12-6 overall.

"Give Slippery Rock all the credit," Adelphi head coach Rich Ilsley said. "They capitalized on their opportunities today and we didn't. We couldn't get goals when we needed them. That's been the story all season."

Slippery Rock goalie Lauren McManus turned away all five Adelphi shots that were directed on net, while Conway recorded seven saves in a losing effort. Adelphi (12-6) outshot Slippery Rock by a 15-12 margin.
