Game One|Game Two

Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. - The Adelphi University softball team swept Mercy College, 3-1 and 11-0 in a conference doubleheader this afternoon. The Panthers improve to 20-14 and 8-2 in the ECC, while the Mavericks fall to 6-13 and 2-6.

The Panthers were led offensivley by senior Dely Francisco with four hits on seven at-bats with three runs scored and two stolen bases.

Game One
The Mavericks struck first, as McPhee scored on a single by Madick in the first inning. It took the Panthers until the sixth inning to rally back with the help of three errors by the host. Francisco, who went 2-4 in the game, reached on an error by the second baseman then stole second. Senior Bailey Lawrence also got on via an error as Francisco crossed homeplate. Lawerence then scored on a sacrifice fly by junior Jessica Vogt, for the game-winning run. Junior Samantha Johnston made it 3-1 when she scored on an error by the shortstop.

Senior Julie Schaper (9-2) allowed five hits with one run, one earned with one walk and 11 strikeouts.

Adelphi had three runs on five hits with no errors. Mercy had one run on five hits with three errors.

Game Two
Senior Diana DiPiano drove in Francisco for the game-winning run in the first inning. Adelphi exploded in the second inning with nine runs on seven hits, led by junior Christina O'Hara with a three RBI triple. DiPiano also added another two RBI. Johnston extended the Panther lead to 11-0 as Vogt's single pushed her home.

Freshman Leighann Bell (3-3) recorded the win, allowing two hits in 4.0 innings with no runs. Senior Samantha Tilton pitched one inning in relief for the save.

Adelphi had 11 runs on 12 hits with on error. Merch had no runs on two hits with four errors.

The Panthers return to action tomorrow, April 8, as they host Caldwell College at 3:00 p.m.
