Lowell, Mass. - Adelphi University split with UMass-Lowell in a pair of non-conference softball games at River View Field. Adelphi won the opener, 3-1, while UML held off the Panthers in the nightcap, 7-5. With the split, Adelphi is currently 25-15 while the River Hawks are 13-11. In the opener, Panther junior 3B Diana DiPiano (Oceanside, NY) batted 2 for 3 with two runs and a solo shot to left field to break a 0-0 deadlock in the fourth inning. Freshman DH Deidre White (East Islip, NY) went 1 for 3 with a two-run home run in the sixth. Senior P Julia Schaper (Warwick, NY) earned the win to improve to 12-2 as she allowed six hits, four walks and one earned run while striking out seven. Sophomore P Lindsay Farmer (Kingston, NH) took the loss as she scattered eight hits, three earned runs and one walk while striking out two. In game two, UML jumped out to a 6-1 lead after three innings. The Panthers, however, stormed back with four runs in the fourth, highlighted by a two-run single by junior 2B Kristin Brennan (Staten Island, NY) and RBI singles by junior 1B Christina O'Hara (Deer Park, NY) and Schaper. White took the loss for Adelphi, slipping to 2-5 on the year. White allowed six hits, four runs (all earned) and a walk while striking out one. The Panthers were originally slated to play Stonehill tomorrow, but the game has been cancelled.
