Brookhaven, N.Y. - Junior Diana DiPiano's two run homer in the first inning put the Panthers up for good as Adelphi University topped NYIT, 6-2, in the ECC Softball Tournament. The Panthers (38-18) advance to play Bridgeport tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. Junior Katie Brophy drove in senior Dely Francisco to put the Panthers up, 1-0, in the first. Brophy crossed home plate on DiPiano's HR to make it, 3-0. NYIT's Brilynn Fields scored in the fourth inning, but Adelphi pulled away in the fifth when DiPiano doubled to bring home junior Samantha Johnston. Then junior Jessica Vogt blasted a two RBI homerun to stretch the lead to five, 6-1. The Bears added a second run in the top of the seventh as Katelyn Thomas scored on a RBI single by Annel Sanchez. Senior Julie Schaper went the distance for the Panthers, allowed six hits with two walks and eight strikeouts. Bridgeport advanced to tomorrow's semifinals after defeating Dowling, 3-2. College. |
