Garden City, N.Y. - The NCAA Division II Softball Committee has selected the 64 teams that will participate in the 2008 NCAA Division II Softball Regional Championships. Adelphi University has been selected as the #3 seed in the Northeast Regional Softball Tournament set to begin on May 7 on the campus of C.W. Post. Eight teams will participate at each of eight regional sites in double-elimination tournaments to determine the final eight championship participants. Winners will advance to the finals May 14-17 in Houston, Texas, as part of the NCAA Division II National Championships Festival. The Panthers will take on #6 Bryant University in game one on Wednesday, May 7, at 9:00 a.m. The winner will take on #2 LeMoyne/#7 NYIT winner on Thursday. Click here for a complete listing of all tournament information. Live stats will be provided for each game. This is the third NCAA appearance for Adelphi in as many years. The Panthers have already set a new DII school record for most wins in a season (40) and career records by seniors Dely Francisco for steals (91) and Julie Schaper for strikeouts (562). The Panthers are 10-4 all-time versus Bryant College, having split with them during the regular season. Adelphi has played every team that has advanced to the regional this season with the exception of LeMoyne. The Panthers are 8-5 against those other six opponents this season. |
