Flushing, NY - Freshman Alda Ribeiro (Del Ray Beach, Fl) was named Rookie of the Year for the East Coast Conference. Ribeiro took second place in the 2007 ECC Singles Flight Championship held at Flushing, New York this past Sunday. Ribeiro finished the season 6-1 in the ECC, with a 7-1 overall record. This marks the best finish in Adelphi Women's Tennis since 2005 when Claudia Nunez finished second to Queens College's Dominika Bajuk.

Ribeiro faced tough competition throughout the tournament at the number one singles spot, but was not fully tested until the final match-up against Somadi Druker of Concordia. Druker, who went on to beat Ribeiro, was named ECC Women's Tennis Player of the Year, voted by the ECC coaches. Druker would remain unbeaten in the 2007 season, posting a 10-0 overall record along with a 7-0 ECC record.

Also for her efforts in the tournament, and throughout the season, Ribeiro earned ECC first-team all-conference kudos. She joined five others in the conference with this honor.
