Oct. 16, 2006 Flushing, N.Y. - The Adelphi women's tennis team traveled to Flushing, New York October 14-15 to compete in the East Coast Conference Flight Championships. Adelphi had two players advance to the final round of their flight, while three others made it to the semi-finals. This Championship closed out the women's tennis fall schedule. Senior Amanda Aniboli (West Islip, N.Y.) won her first conference title in the fifth flight singles competition. Aniboli defeated Lauren Gannon of New Haven in the first round 6-2, 6-0. In the semi-finals, she defeated Olivia Glinka of Queens 6-0, 6-1. Aniboli's last match was against Amy Boyd of Concordia College by a score of 6-4, 6-4. Freshman Tricia Burns (Bristol, CT) was the other Adelphi player to make it to the finals of the sixth flight singles. Burns defeated Jessica Marina of Dowling (6-2, 6-0) in the first round and S. Can of Concordia College (7-5, 6-2) in the semi-finals. Burns then took on Margaret O'Campo of Queens College for the championship. Burns won the first set 6-4, but O'Campo came back to win the second and third sets 6-3, 6-2. Senior Melissa Pashayan (Garden City, N.Y.) defeated Caroline Gizzi in the first round of the first flight singles bracket. Pashayan played Amanda Ferrari of Concordia in the semi-finals, but was defeated by scores of 6-0, 6-0. Graduate Student, Claudette Frysztacki (Wantagh, N.Y.) also advanced to the semi-final round in second flight singles competition after defeating Alison Reeg of St. Thomas Aquinas College, 6-2, 6-1 in the quarter-finals. Alyssa Morra defeated Frysztacki in the semi-final round 6-0, 6-1. At the ECC fourth flight championships Moore advanced to the semi-finals after defeating Andrea Condur of Queens College. Moore then played Allyson Cinelli of Dowling College, winning the first set 6-2. Cinelli came back to win the second set 6-2 and eventually won the third set 10-8 to win the match. |
